One of the longest-running traditions in Mall of America’s history actually pre-dates our opening. The JDRF One Walk to fight type 1 diabetes began the year we opened our doors and has grown into a formidable community, passionately raising awareness for three decades and counting.
JDRF is the leading organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research, working to accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent, and treat T1D and its complications. JDRF does this through funding research, advocating for government action, and providing a support structure for the T1D community.
Each year, the JDRF One Walk raises funds for research and advocacy on behalf of T1D while participants—including guests and Mall of America® team members—band together as they move through the halls of the Mall, celebrating the courage and camaraderie behind the fight. More than just a fundraiser, the JDRF One Walk is a celebration of a community coming together for a common goal. As walkers move through the Mall, there are photo opportunities, hands-on activities, and entertainment in every court. A celebration—complete with music, mascots, and fun—follows in the rotunda. It’s a tradition that has embedded itself in Mall of America’s very DNA.
If there’s hope, happiness, and community, there’s reason to celebrate—and we’re excited to be a part of it!
