Mall of America® celebrates Earth Month with exciting green events and initiatives
BLOOMINGTON, MN — August 5, 2024
Mall of America® is thrilled to celebrate Earth Month with a variety of activities and programs throughout April. Guests will have the opportunity to shop for vintage apparel at Totally Rad Vintage Fest, learn about the Mall’s green initiatives during our Sustainable Sunday Tours, or help release thousands of ladybugs within the plant life in Nickelodeon Universe®.
Sustainability has always been a priority to Mall of America. The original design of the Mall incorporated innovative solutions for heating and improving air quality, such as planting tens of thousands of trees and plants to naturally clean the air. Additionally, the Mall operates without a central heating system, relying instead on passive solar energy through 1.7 square miles of skylights to maintain a comfortable 72 degrees year-round.
Below are details on our Earth Month events and initiatives:
Tree Planting
Mall of America and One Tree Planted are joining forces to plant 10,000 trees in Minnesota and we need your help! To participate, shoppers can join the Mall’s loyalty program, MOA Insiders, and scan their receipts into the app. For every receipt scanned, a tree will be planted, contributing to the goal of creating a healthier environment.
Sustainable Sunday Tours
Take a walk and learn about the Mall’s green practices with our new Sustainable Sunday Tours. These complimentary 45-minute walks will take place every Sunday in April to showcase the Mall’s eco-friendly initiatives. Tours begin at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Guests are invited to gather at the North Guest Services Desk where they will be greeted by a trusty tour guide. No prior sign-up is required; the tours operate on a first-come, first-served basis.

Ladybug Release
Come celebrate Earth Day with 144,000 of your newest and smallest friends! For years, Mall of America has welcomed spring by distributing ladybugs among the Mall’s 30,000 live plants and trees, as ladybugs serve as a natural pesticide. But for the first time, the public is invited to participate in releasing 144,000 ladybugs throughout the Park plant life. Come see the ladybugs hard at work in the Mall’s many unique plants, ranging from an orange tree to a pineapple plant! Keep an eye on our Mall of America social channels to learn how to sign up to participate.
