Mall of America® attracts massive crowds Black Friday weekend

With more shoppers extending the amount of time they spend at the holiday destination

BLOOMINGTON, MN — December 3, 2024

The tradition of Black Friday at Mall of America® is alive and thriving. More than 500,000 people visited from across the country between Wednesday, November 27 through Sunday, December 1. Shopping wasn’t the only draw, as attraction ticket sales were also up showing that guests were truly making the most of their stay.

Mall of America Black Friday weekend stats

The biggest shift in consumer behavior was the amount of time people spent at the Mall on Black Friday. Guests were spending an average of more than three hours at Mall of America on Black Friday, which is a 35% increase in dwell time from 2023.

Traffic was up 10% the Wednesday before Thanksgiving compared to last year and up 20% compared to 2019. Traffic on the Saturday following Black Friday was also up nearly 10% compared to last year and up 33% to 2019.

The Black Friday weekend (Wednesday, November 27 – Sunday, December 1) traffic was up 5% compared to 2023 and up 10% to 2019. The extension of Black Friday deals and early deals have turned the shopping holiday into a weekend-long event.

13,000 guests visited Mall of America within the first hour of opening on Black Friday.

Nearly 50% of Mall of America tenant survey respondents said their MOA store was top performing across the company on Black Friday.
